Michael Smith is a Co-Founder, Team Engineer, and one of the drivers for Spec13 Motorsports.
Michael started doing HPDE events in 2010 and, in 2016, made the jump to NASA Time Trials. He experienced a high level of success over the course of the 2016 and 2017 seasons, including many podium finishes and Second overall in season points in 2017. As of 2018,
Michael has started racing in NASA
Spec Miata along side teammate Chris Graham where they have both reaped some early success. So far, Michael has earned three podium finishes and came in third in overall points for the 2018 season. The new challenges associated with wheel to wheel racing have presented unceasing opportunities for Michael to grow as a driver, competitor, and team member. By day, Michael is a Professional Engineer (PE) working for Onondaga County Department of Water Environment Protection. In his spare time, he provides freelance engineering services to Built 2 Apex, a California based race engineering and fabrication company, and is a regular contributor and columnist for Apex Automotive Magazine, a Central New York based publication. Michael resides in Syracuse, NY with his wife Nicole and two dogs Burnadet and Hunter
